In the past 100 years, the Bermuda Triangle has claimed over 1000 lives.
In reality, that is only 10 a year. Though these lives lost are tragedies, this
is not that incredible of a figure. It is how they died that have sparked
many legends.
The first legends of the Bermuda Triangle begin already with Christopher
Columbus. Much of the information we have about Columbus is picked up directly from his journal, so we are able to
trace his footsteps to the New World. His first problem occurred as he ran into the Sargasso Sea. The crew was greatly disappointed when seaweed
and land birds were sighted, but after a few days no land was to be seen.
Soon after, Columbus reported his compass acting strangely. He did not report this to his crew due to their deep superstitions. Days later,
Columbus saw a large meteor fall from the sky. He described it as "a large ball of light fallen from the sky."
Later in their trip, Columbus and a few crew members sighted a few dancing lights on the
horizon. They wandered about in the Caribbean for over a week yet before sighting land.
Since Columbus, as many as 100 ships and planes have been reported missing, taking over 1000 lives. A select few of them are reported here...
1872: The Mary Celeste
1945: The disappearance of 5 Navy avengers - Flight 19
1947: Army C-45 Super fort vanishes 100 miles off Bermuda.
1948: Four-engine Tudor IV lost with 31 lives.
1948: DC-3 lost with 32 passengers and crew.
1949: Second Tudor IV vanishes.
1950: Giant US Air Force Globe master lost.
1950: American freighter, SS Sandra (350 ft), sinks without a trace.
1952: British York transport plane lost with 33 aboard.
1954: US Navy Lockheed Constellation vanishes with 42 aboard.
1956: US Navy seaplane, Martin p5M, disappears with crew of ten.
1962: US Air Force KB-50 tanker plane lost.
1963: Marine Sulpher Queen vanishes without a trace.
1967: Military YC-122, converted to cargo plane, lost.
1970: French freighter Milton latrides disappears.
1972: German freighter Anita (20,000 tons), lost with crew of 32.
1997: Passengers disappear from German yacht.
Perhaps the ocean is to remain a secret to man, a mystery, to keep us
away from the power nature truly has over man. This mystery can serve as
a warning and to inspire awe into men's heart, looking at the greatness and
power this great Creation.
Death Shall Come on Swift Wings To
Him Who Disturbs the Peace of the
King... -Supposedly engraved on the exterior
of King Tutankhamun's Tomb.
In 1891 a young Englishman named Howard Carter arrived in Egypt. Over the years he
became convinced that there was at least one undiscovered tomb. That of the almost unknown
King Tutankhamun. Carter found a backer for his tomb search in the wealthy Lord Carnarvon.
For five years Carter dug looking for the missing Pharaoh and found nothing.
On November 4th, 1922 Carter's workmen discovered a step cut into the rock. Then they found fifteen
more leading to an ancient doorway that appeared to be still sealed. On the doorway was the name
Tutankhamun.
Carter immediately sent a telegram to Carnarvon and waited anxiously for his arrival.
Carnarvon made it to Egypt by November 26th and watched as Carter made a hole in the
door. Carter leaned in, holding a candle, to take a look. Behind him Lord Carnarvon asked,
"Can you see anything?"
Carter answered, "Yes, wonderful things."
A few months later tragedy struck. Lord Carnarvon, 57, was taken ill and rushed to Cairo. He
died a few days later. The exact cause of death was not known, but it seemed to be from an
infection started by an insect bite. Legend has it that when he died there was a short power
failure and all the lights throughout Cairo went out. On his estate back in England his
favorite dog howled and dropped dead.
Even more strange, when the mummy of Tutankhamun was unwrapped in 1925, it was found to
have a wound on the left cheek in the same exact position as the insect bite on Carnarvon that
lead to his death.
By 1929 eleven people connected with the discovery of the Tomb had died early and of unnatural causes. This included two of Carnarvon's relatives, Carter's personal secretary, Richard Bethell, and Bethell's father, Lord Westbury. Westbury killed himself by jumping from a building. He left a note that read," I really cannot stand any more horrors and hardly see what good I am going to do here, so I am making my exit."
Perhaps, the power of a curse is in the mind of the person who believes in it.
Howard Carter, the man who actually opened the tomb, never believed in the
curse and lived to a reasonably old age of 66 before dying of entirely natural causes.
Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) remains as perhaps the grisliest of mysteries in the world. SHC is the sudden self-incineration of a human being. The cause is unknown and even the fact that this phenomena even occurs is under some dispute. The current theory is that when a person drinks large amounts of alcohol and smokes, the body's own chemicals combine with these substances which creates an extremely flammable condition. There also seems to be a connection with certain foods eaten at the time. We do know that the stomach produces the necessary chemicals needed for high-heat combustion. What is being looked at now is the phosphates that are present in the digestive tract, namely phosphine, which can ignite when it contacts air.
SHC victim profile:
Victims are mostly solitary, reclusive, elderly and female. Nearly all victims are
overweight to severely obese.
Post-mortem external characteristics:
Almost total combustion of the flesh and skeleton, leaving only extremities undamaged.
Victims are almost always consumed in a state of shock-induced, paralytic condition.
The final result of SHC is the reduction of an otherwise normal, healthy human body to
a pile of fine black ash, the consistency of which is finer than that of a cremated corpse.
The phenomenon is not a new one. It has been reported since the 1600's.
The great author Charles Dickens wrote about SHC in one of his early novels. There also seems to be a
thirty year trend at the end of which, SHC cases rise in dramatic numbers. The next peak being the year
2004.
There was one case where a man burned through three floors, then burned a black mark in the basement
floor.
There was another case where a man's leg burned off while sitting in his trailer. The trailer caught on fire
but the man escaped and lived to tell about it. He said that he was drinking large amounts of alcohol and
chain smoking prior to the incident. He fell asleep to wake up with his leg burning up.
In 1976, the Viking 1 Orbiter took a photograph of the Cydonia region of Mars, showing what looks like a
humanoid face one mile long and 1,500 feet high. NASA dismissed the resemblance as a trick of light
and shadow. The Cydonia region also contains what appear to be several pyramid-like objects, which
some researchers claim are mathematically aligned and display other characteristics that would seem
beyond random chance.
The first hopes for new photos of the region were dashed with the mysterious loss of the billion dollar
Mars Observer as it approached Mars in 1993. While most viewed this incident as a tragic accident,
others suspected information has been denied to the public, and that perhaps NASA knows more about
evidence for past extraterrestrial life on Mars than they're telling.
NASA is planning a host of other missions to Mars over the next few decades. In 2005, a probe will collect Martian soil and bring it back to Earth, perhaps providing further evidence that at least some forms of simple life did exist on Mars. Is it possible that millions of years ago intelligent life once inhabited Mars? Could they have constructed The Face? It certainly seems worth taking a closer look...
1.The Smoke
Qur'an: " Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke.
covering the people, this is a painful torment." (Al Dukhan) .
Hadeeth: "Verily ALLAH warned you from three signs: The smoke from which the believers will suffer something like a
cold, but it will overtake the disbelievers and make them swell until it comes out from their ears. The second sign is the
Beast , and the third is the Dajjal."
Some of the companions said the smoke will remain on earth for forty days.
2.The Dajjal (false Messiah or
Antichrist)
Hadeeth: " There will be no greater tribulation on the face of the earth, since the time ALLAH created the children of
Adam , than the Dajjal. Verily, no prophet was sent who did not warn his people from the Dajjal, and I am the last of the
prophets, and you are the last of the nations, and so he will inevitably appear among you."
* The Dajjal will appear after the Muslims win a great battle against the Christians (who will have broken a peace treaty
with the Muslims). * Dajjal will rule for forty years, and cause tremendous turmoil.
* Dajjal's purpose will be to destroy the Muslim power.
* He will have extraordinary power and will use it to claim to be GOD.
* He will be aided by the Jews and the devils.
* Muslims will gather under the leadership of a righteous Imam to fight the Dajjal.
* Just before the battle, as the Muslims prepare to pray fajr 'Issa (Jesus)
(pbuh) will descend and kill the Dajjal.
Hadeeth: When the Dajjal sees 'Issa, he will begin to dissolve like salt in water, and will run away. 'Issa will catch up with
him at the Eastern gate of Ludd and will kill him, and the Jews will then be defeated with the help of ALLAH."
3.The Descent of 'Issa (Jesus, the Messiah) Remember ALLAH raised 'Issa (pbuh) to the heavens when the Jews wanted to crucify him. He will return.
* "And he (Jesus) shall be a Sign of the Hour." (Al Zukhrof ).
* Hadeeth: "I am the closest of all the people to 'Issa son of Maryam
(Mary), for there is no prophet between him and myself.
He will come again, and when you see him, you will recognize him. He is of medium height and his complexion is
reddish-white, he will be wearing two garments, and his hair will look wet, although no water had got to it."
* Hadeeth: "By the ONE in Whose Hand my soul is, surely the son of Maryam will come down among you as a just
ruler. He will break the cross, kill the pig and abolish the Jizyah. Wealth will be in such abundance that no one will care
about it, and a single prostration will be better than the world and all that is in it."
* Hadeeth: "Then peace and security will prevail on earth, so that lions will graze with camels, tigers with
cattle and wolves with sheep. Children will be able to play with snakes without coming to any harm. 'Issa will remain on earth for
forty years, then he will die, and the Muslims will pray for him."
*'Issa (pbuh) will rule with the Islamic Shari'ah as was sent down with Mohammad (pbuh) and will abolish all that does not conform with the Shari'ah.
4.The Appearance of Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog)
* Hadeeth: "Verily, Ya'juj and Ma'juj are digging a way through the barrier every day. When they begin to see sunlight
through it, their leader says: 'Go back, we will continue digging tomorrow' and so ALLAH will make the barrier stronger
than it was before. This will continue until their time will come and ALLAH wishes to send them forth.
They will dig until they see sunlight, then their leader will say: 'Go back we will continue digging tomorrow, in shaa ALLAH' thus relating
the matter to the Will of ALLAH. They will return and will find the hole as they left it. They will continue digging till they
come out against the people. They will drink all the water. People will entrench
themselves in their fortresses.
Ya'juj and Ma'juj will throw their arrows into the sky which will fall back to earth drenched in blood, and then they will say: 'We
defeated the people of the earth, and we overcame the people of heaven.' Then Allah will send worms in the nape of
their necks, and they will be killed by them...By HE in Whose Hand the soul of Mohammad is, the beasts of the earth
will become fat from eating from their corpses, and will thank ALLAH."
* Hadeeth: "When ALLAH destroys them, people will use their arms for burning fire for seven whole years!"
* Hadeeth: (When they lie dead, their corpses will fill the earth) "Till there is no place that is not filled by the stench of
their fat, and so 'Issa, Allah's prophet will pray to ALLAH, and ALLAH will send birds with long necks, like the
camels' necks, and they will take them to another place where ALLAH wishes, then ALLAH will send down rain that
will cover everything, and so the earth will be washed and left shining like a mirror."
5.The lifting of the Qur'an to heaven and the decline of Islam.
After the spread of Islam (with peace, security and abundant wealth) over the whole earth, Islam will decline.
Hadeeth: "Islam will be faded like the embroidery of a worn out cloth, until nobody knows what is fasting or prayer or
rituals or charity. The Book of Allah will be taken up to heaven on night and not a single verse from it will remain on
earth. There will be some groups of the old and aged people who will say: we remember our parents saying 'la ilaha illa
ALLAH' and so we are saying it."
Hadeeth: "The Hour will not come until nobody on earth says ALLAH!
ALLAH!"
Hadeeth: "The Hour will not come until nobody performs Hajj."
6.The return of people to ignorance.
Hadeeth: (When the Holy Qur'an is taken up to heaven and Islam disappears then) "Allah will send a cool breeze from
the region of Al-Sham and it will kill every person who had a grain of faith and goodness in his heart, even if he were
inside a mountain, this breeze will reach him and take his soul. Then only the worst of people will be left.
They will be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts. They will not know any good nor forbid any evil.
Satan (devil) will appear to them and say: 'will you obey me?' They will ask: 'What do you order us to do?' He will order them to worship idols
and their life will become easier, then the Trumpet [signaling the end of the world] will be blown..."
Hadeeth: "The worst of people will be left. They will fornicate in the streets like animals."
7.The destruction of the Ka'bah.
Hadeeth: "Thul-Suwayqatayn from Abyssinia will destroy the Ka'bah and steal its treasures, and strip it from its kiswah
(curtains covering the Ka'bah). It is as if I could see him now, he is bald-headed, and has a distortion in his wrists. He
will strike the Ka'bah with his spade and pick-ax."
8.The rising of the sun from the west.
When the people see the sun rises from the West, they will believe. Then it will be too late, "no good will it do to a person
to believe then, if he believed not before."

9.The emergence of the Beast.
* When evil and immorality are prevalent, the Beast will emerge.
* "And when the Word (of torment) is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast to them because
mankind believed not with certainty in Our Signs"
( Al Naml )
Hadeeth: "The Beast of the Earth will
emerge, and will have with it the Staff of Musa (Moses) and the ring of Sulayman
(Solomon). It will destroy the noses of the unbelievers with the ring, so that people seated around one table will begin to address each other with the words "O Believer' or 'O
Disbeliever' " * It is not like any animal we know.
Hadeeth: "A Beast who is so hairy that they could not tell its front from its back."
10.The fire that will drive people to their last gathering place.
* Hadeeth: "Fire will burst forth from the direction of Aden (Yemen) and drive people to the place of their last final
assembly."
* Hadeeth: "People will be driven to the place of final assembly in three states, willing and terrified, two riding alternately
on one camel, and three alternately on one camel, and four on one camel. The rest will be chased by the fire. The fire will
be with them when they take a nap, and when they sleep at night and when they wake up in the morning and in the
evening."
* Hadeeth: "Al Sham is the land of final assembly and the land of Resurrection."
Minor signs that have already
occurred:
1.The advent of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
Hadeeth: "I was sent with the first breeze of the Hour."
2.Splitting of the Moon
"The Hour has drawn near and the moon has been cleft asunder." ( Al Qamar
)
The disbelievers asked Mohammad (pbuh) to show them a sign. So the moon appeared cleft asunder in the valley of
Mecca. It was witnessed by the Prophet (pbuh), his companions and some of the disbelievers. It was later reported
by many of the sahaba. The cleaving of the moon was a major miracle of Prophet
Mohammad (pbuh).
3.Fire in Al Hijaz
Hadeeth: "The hour will not come until a fire will appear in the land of Al-Hijaz (now in the western region of
Saudi Arabia, where Mecca and Madinah are located) that will illuminate the necks of camels in
Basra (Iraq)."
The fire occurred in 654 H exactly as Mohammed (pbuh) described.
4.Interruption of the Jizyah and Kharaj
Jizyah was a poll tax on the the People of the Book (Christians
and Jews) who lived under the protection of Islam, but did not accept Islam.
Kharaj was imposed by the Sharie'ah.
Hadeeth: "Iraq held back its Dirham and its Qafiz, and Al Sham (now Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan), held
back its Bushel and its Dinar, and Egypt held back its Ardeb and its Dinar, and you came back to where you
started."
Qafiz, Bushel and Ardeb were measures.
Dirham and Dinar currency.
Minor signs that have occurred and continue to occur or may
occur
again:
1.Conquests and wars
* Hadeeth: "You will conquer the Arabian peninsula and Allah will grant it to you, then the Roman Empire and
Allah will grant it to you, then you will fight the false Messiah and Allah will grant you victory."
Conquests of the Arabian peninsula and Persia have already occurred, but there are still more to come.
* Hadeeth: "The Hour will not come until you fight the Turks [Tartars], who are people with small eyes, red faces
and snub noses. They are broad-faced as if their faces were hammered shields. and the Hour will not come until
you fight people who wear shoes made of hair."
The battles occurred centuries after the death of the Mohammed
(pbuh).
* Mohammed (pbuh) also said that the Muslims will conquer Constantinople (Istanbul, Turkey).
2.Appearance of impostors pretending to be prophets
Hadeeth: "the Hour will not come until liars and imposters appear, their number nearing thirty, everyone of them
claiming to be the Messenger of Allah."
3.Increase in tribulations and turmoil
Hadeeth: "Just before the Hour, there will be days when ignorance will appear and knowledge will disappear, and
there will be much killing."
Hadeeth: "Among the signs of the Hour will be the
disappearance of knowledge and the spread of ignorance. Adultery will be prevalent, and the drinking of wine will
be common. The number of men will decrease and the number of women will increase until there will be fifty
women to be looked after by one man."
Hadeeth: "Just before the Hour there will be much killing. It is not you killing the disbelievers, but you killing each
other until the man would kill his neighbor, his brother, his uncle and his cousin."
Some of these problems have already occurred. There are still more tribulations and killings to come.
4.Entrusting affairs of Muslims to undeserving persons and general corruption of the Muslims.
Hadeeth: "When the affairs are entrusted to undeserving people, then wait for the Hour."
Hadeeth: "The man would sleep and honesty will be taken away from his heart, and only its trace will remain like a
speckle. Then he sleeps again and honesty will decrease still further in his heart and its trace would be like a blister
from an ember that rolled onto one's foot: it swells, but there is nothing inside (then he took a stone and rolled it on
his foot), then people will be carrying on with their trade, but there will hardly be anyone who is trustworthy, until
it will be said: 'there is among such and such tribe a trustworthy man.' Later on people will say about a man 'what
a strong, polite and wise man he is,' and there is not a mustard grain of faith in his heart."
Hadeeth: "When you see the slave woman giving birth to her master, and you see the shepherds competing in erecting tall buildings, and the bare footed and hungry becoming the leaders, then this is one of the signs of the Hour."
When asked who were the shepherds and the bare-footed, he (pbuh) said the Bedouin Arabs.
Scholars say that this
hadeeth illustrates the entrusting of affairs of the nation to people who lack experience (shepherds).
5.Unification of non-Muslim nations against the Muslim
Nation
Hadeeth: "'The nations will summon each other against you as those eating summon each other to their dish.' A
man asked: 'Is it because we will be few?' He said: 'You will rather be many, but you will be like the foam of the
stream, and Allah will take out from the hearts of your enemy fear of you, and He will put weakness in your
hearts.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, and what is the weakness?' He said: 'Love of this world, and hatred of
death.'"
6.Different kinds of evil befalling the Muslim
Nation
Hadeeth: "Just before the Hour, there will be people who will be swallowed up by the earth, and some will be
transformed into animals, and women will be bombarded with stones. This will happen when singers and musical
instruments become popular, and much wine is drunk."
Hadeeth: "One of the signs of the Hour is when a man greets only the one he knows."
Minor signs that have not yet
occurred:
1.Abundant wealth and the Arabian peninsula will become once again a land of gardens and rivers
Hadeeth: "The Hour will not come until there will be abundant wealth, so that a man would go out with his Zakat
to give it away but he will not find anybody who would accept it, until the land of the Arabs turns into gardens and
rivers."
It is not known if the greenery will come from artificial means such as irrigation or from climate change. ALLAH
knows best.
2.Enlargement of the crescent
Hadeeth: "A sign of the approach of the Hour is the enlargement of the crescents."
On the first day of the month, the crescent will be so large that people will think it's the 2nd or 3rd day.
Extraordinary Events
Hadeeth: "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, the Last Hour will not come before the beasts of prey speak to
man, and the end of a man's whip speaks to him, and his thigh informs him what his family have done after him."
Hadeeth: "The hour will not come until the Euphrates river uncovers a mountain of gold, for which people will kill
each other, so that out of one hundred men, ninety nine will be killed, while every one of them will say maybe I am
the one who will be saved."
Further: "Whoever witnesses this should not take anything from it."
The Messenger (pbuh) prohibited Muslims from taking from this gold, because it will lead to turmoil and killing.
Hadeeth: "The days and the nights will not disappear until a man named Al-Jahjah comes to power."
About Al Jahjah: "A man from Qahtan who rules people by the stick."
The Mahdi is the last of the minor signs and will come just before the first of the major signs of the Hour.
Hadeeth: "If only one day of this world is left, Allah will lengthen it until He sends a man of my progeny, whose
name is the same as mine, and his father's name is the same as my father's, who will fill the land with fairness and
justice, after it was filled with injustice and tyranny."
"Al Mahdi is of my progeny, he will have a high forehead, and a prominent nose, he will fill the land with justice
and fairness as it were filled with injustice and tyranny. He will rule for seven years."
Some scholars classify Al Mahdi as one of the greater signs of the Hour, because there will
be no doubt about his appearance.
